‘The Polarity Of Purpose’ (Magic Of Mandorla)
The synthesis of our wounds and aspirations creates presence, wholeness and spiritual maturity, which reveals our true purpose.
– Caroline Carey
“What the artist is always looking for is the mode of existence in which soul and body are one.”
If you are a creative, pioneering your art, or an entrepreneur wanting to help empower others, then you are likely to have great aspirations for yourself, your students and colleagues, you’re offering and your work.
But if you are out of balance and not in touch with your core-wound, you are likely to have little understanding of what the people who are attracted to working with you will require, or the effect you will be having on them. Therefore failure is likely and no one can afford this.
In The Polarity Of Purpose or Magic Of Mandorla process we enquire into the core wound that is part of our make up and blue-print. This enables us to take into account our personal struggles and recognise the work we have to do on ourselves, so that we can be of better service to our communities.
The core-wound is the original wound, not the traumas, neglect and hurt. These are its manifestations. What we seek is the wound that we inherited for our spiritual growth.
- If you live with a concession of challenges that repeat over time without consolidation or reprieve, this work can help you.
- If you are struggling to find your purpose, knowing it exists but not managing to discover its potential, or failing to get it off the ground, then visiting ‘the polarity of purpose’ will begin to make clear why you are not moving forward.
- If your offering is manifesting, but lacking in joy, if decisions are hard to make in any aspect of your life, or you are giving too much away, then ‘the polarity of purpose’ could be the answer to your problem.
- If you are unsure of your gift, because it has never been encouraged, or you are not fully recognising it, then arriving at ‘the polarity of purpose’ will begin to highlight that for you.
There is a polarity in every problem we have, but it can be hard to understand how these polarities play out in our lives. Through the polarity of purpose, we discover new possibilities; with a constellation process, development of creativity and a series of enquiries we begin to unravel the original blueprint, the language of our unique and inherent quality.
If you have tried other approaches but find nothing seems to work, then you might find this as a last resort. Why not give it a try?
On a personal note:
I began to find solutions for my pain and difficulties very early on in life. During my first shamanic training, I was sent on a vision walk with a particular exercise to do. Each time I stood still, what was directly ahead of me was two identical objects, side by side. Two chimneys, two gates, two windows, two trees and on it went. This grabbed my curiosity, yet I had no idea what it would lead to at that time. I continued the unearthing of something that would be immensely potent, not just for myself but for my vocation.
When I became more aware of my life story, which included the struggle many women have between motherhood and career, as well as all of the polarities that had transpired throughout my life, I knew that I needed to enquire deeper, embrace my aspirations and fully understand my core-wound, to see how it repeated throughout my life, to explore its landscapes, to feel it innately through my body, to dance with it, to create with it and to recognise it as a powerful ally not an enemy, and to recognise its gift.
I then began to see polarities or opposites, in many different forms.
After much research into the Vesicus Piscis and The Mandorla, I started to hold ‘The Polarity Of Purpose’ (then called Magic Of Mandorla process) workshops, seminars and one-to-one teachings around the world. I wrote and published about it in my books so that others would benefit from what I was learning and had experienced.
What is the Mandorla?
The Mandorla (a symbol of polarity) is an ancient symbol that represents a divine union of pure presence, depicting sacred moments that transcend time and space. It is possibly the most ancient sacred symbol known. Two overlapping circles represent the polarities between opposite forces and the energy the opposites hold, as in earth and sky, feminine and masculine, ego and soul, or physical and spiritual realms. The two circles sit within the larger circle, which represents total existence. They meet at the centre forming the almond shape known as Mandorla or Vesica Piscis.
As human beings we are here to bridge the opposites of spirit and matter, to manifest the connection between the spiritual forces and the life of being human. It is the deepest lesson for us to learn. Becoming grounded in our physical body enables us to hold the spiritual-soul-self as resident of our existence.
At a time when our differences, our needs and desires, gender, culture, politics, faith traditions, etc threaten to divide us, the Mandorla provides a bridge that can deepen this experience and empower the right action.
The polarity between opposites creates a fundamental tension that has the potential to be either profoundly destructive or powerfully generative and creative. The evidence of the destructive consequences of this tension lies all around us in the terrible scourges of war, inequality and conflict within and between individuals, groups and societies.
Engaging in the work
During this work, we use the tools of embodiment, creativity, meditation and constellation-work to enquire with the Mandorla, ‘the polarity of purpose’. Each person has the opportunity to explore some of the conflicts in their life and work, looking at how they play out. With the support of the group and a constellation process held and guided by Caroline, we enter into the magic of the process, allowing new insights, discovering the richness of our embodied wisdom.
This work can be used with or without movement/conscious dance and creative projects.
What it introduces is more empathy and consideration of others, kindness and humility which is often much needed in today’s workplaces.
How to go about it?
- Sign up for six one to one sessions, with in-between tasks
- Join group meet-ups online
- Attend workshops with the Mandorla process
“Sometimes within our individual self and within the self of our worn-out society, there is no answer to conflict. There is, however, a way to stand within the center of the opposing forces. Conflict creates tremendous energy. If we leave out judgement then that ‘energy’ can become a vibration of light. Not always just a single light but many lights, sending out a vibration that is LOVE!”
What do you need?
- A willingness to look deeply into your life story
- A desire to discover the embodiment of your innate gift
- Time away from usual commitments
- Financial commitment
- Art materials (to be discussed)
To date this work has been offered over the last 12 years, in UK, South Africa, Germany, Norway, Czech Republic, Ireland, Estonia, The Netherlands by over a thousand people in-person and online and continues to be offered where it is required.

It is known as the most powerful of (spiritual) religious experiences we can have in life. Mandorla is the place of poetry “And the fire and the rose are one.”
I attended Caroline Carey‘s Magic of the Mandorla workshop. I feel compelled to write a few words as it was a wonderful and powerful experience with lots of movement/dancing and plenty of deep emotional work. Intense and liberating stuff. Based on this experience I’d most definitely recommend Caroline’s work.
I’ve only ever danced (at least sober) in my own living room before so I was apprehensive about a weekend exploring the Mandorla via dance with Caroline but felt drawn to take part. I’m so glad I did. Caroline made me feel immediately comfortable and almost as unselfconscious as I am dancing at home. The people who are attracted to the sort of work Caroline does are open hearted, kind and adventurous exactly the sort of fellow explorers you need to venture into this sort of inner work. As an artist I was especially interested in the art-making component of the workshop. I felt free to create in my own way but without the pressure of perfection that I often feel in my professional work, I think anyone at any level of artistic experience (or none) would find this accessible and enriching. The feeling of camaraderie built up over the weekend so when it was time to dive in deep it didn’t feel too intimidating especially with Caroline’s gentle but firm manner of holding space. In the following days I’ve been expanding on the insights I gained over the weekend and believe they will have a significant effect on how I live my life from now on. I couldn’t recommend the Magic of Mandorla workshop more highly, if you’re hesitating I suggest taking the leap!
“Magic of Mandorla, amazing and deep work with Caroline Carey. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT to anyone who is studying to become a therapist or is one already but seeking the thread of connection in continuing your own development and work with your own process (which we so need when we work with others – right?). If you feel called to this work, then follow your intuition and go for it! I think it’s of excellent quality.”
