What Is Middle Earth Medicine?

‘For the way of wyrds dreamers, the seekers of the truth, the freedom re-awakeners, the liberating soul, the poets and the dancers, the magicians of our fold.’

Reclaiming the ancestral and innocent lineage of the soul

A Journey With Animism

We each hold a gift, that is as ancient as time itself. Todays society puts little value on that gift preferring material wealth. For those outside of normal living trying to fit in, but recognising the world isn’t designed for who we are, it’s a painful journey.

Do you crave a life that whispers of forgotten wisdom, a connection to something ancient and wise?

In today’s fast-paced world, fleeting spiritual trends can leave us feeling overwhelmed. What we truly crave is a deeper connection that nourishes the soul. Many of us yearn for a feeling of being held, a connection to something bigger than our thinking mind. Perhaps the answer lies nestled in the ancient wisdom of nature, a world brimming with life – and even closer, within the richness of our daily experiences.

Would it help to Embrace the Wisdom of Your Own Nature to Understand Your Soul?

Animism isn’t a rigid belief system; it’s a way of experiencing the world where everything vibrates with a hidden pulse of life. And yes, that includes your life! Your daily experiences, your choices, and the way you navigate the world all contribute to the uniqueness of your individuality and innate purpose.

Animism, rooted in the Latin word “anima” means breath, spirit, life. It is the belief that the world is brimming with life force. It goes beyond the physical, recognising a distinct spiritual essence within objects, words, places and creatures. From animals and plants to rocks, rivers, and even the weather, animism sees all things as imbued with soul, a creative force, and the ability to act on their own accord.

Imagine a life where you feel a deep sense of security, knowing you’re part of a vast web of life far greater than yourself.

By embracing this interconnectedness with nature and soul, we can embark on a journey of self-discovery. Animism offers a gentle roadmap, grounded in ancient wisdom, to help you:

  • Unveil the soul woven into your daily life. Animism can help you see the deeper meaning and purpose in your experiences.
  • Develop a profound connection to your home and surroundings. Learn to see the stories and energies held within meaningful connections and spaces you inhabit.
  • Cultivate emotional freedom and inner peace. Draw strength from the ever-present life force and find new perspectives on your emotions and sensations.

How Middle Earth Medicine found its way into my life.

For decades, ‘Middle Earth Medicine Ways’ whispered to me. It was a presence I couldn’t quite grasp. Then, during a fireside vigil i was holding in South Africa, it finally clicked. A homecoming. A descent into my soul’s deepest chambers.

This wasn’t just a path, it was poetry and movement in its very core. It was the answer to the absence of soul advisors in my life, the missing piece in a world where religion dominated spirituality. Where was the guidance for our innocent, untamed soul?

This, I realised, was where my journey began…

In time I understood there were three levels in the meaning of the name.

The journey begins within. At the heart, the center of our being, lies the wellspring of true transformation. This “Middle” is where body, mind, spirit, and Earth connect, grounding us and guiding us towards a life of meaning. Here, we ask ourselves the most important questions: What “medicine” do we need? What wounds need healing? What forgotten wisdom lies dormant within?

You may have felt like you’re following a script handed down by society. We all experience conditioning, but it can overshadow our true potential. This work might not be the most comfortable for our egos, but it’s about unlocking a deeper curiosity and a spark of innocence that lies within each of us. Imagine going beyond the familiar and discovering who you are at your core. This is about awakening the soul-spark that makes your life vibrant and unique.

Born on the cusp of darkness and light, arriving on the Winter Solstice, becoming a middle child, my life has mirrored the concept of ‘Middle Earth Medicine Ways.’ Caught between worlds, I navigated childhood complexities, facing my own traumas and forging solutions. These experiences, explored in depth within my book “Ms’Guided Angel – Revisited,” fuelled my passion for this path.

Trauma can steal our breath, leaving us empty of spirit. We hold it in or forget to breath out fully, shutting down our emotions and severing the connection between spirit and heart. This disconnection creates a profound sense of soul-loss, a wound that festers if left unaddressed. But there’s a tipping point. When we finally lift our heads and recognise the pain, a new path opens before us.

The second layer of ‘Middle Earth’ looks outward. No matter where we stand on the globe, we’re at the center of our own world. In Britain, for example, we literally bridge the East and West. “Middle-earth” isn’t just a fictional land; it’s an ancient term for the magical world our ancestors inhabited. J.R.R. Tolkien himself drew inspiration from this concept. His work, and the stories of others, serve as a reminder to reclaim our sacred heritage – the wisdom embedded within us and within the land itself. Do we truly cherish the earth that sustains us? Do we contribute as much as we take? Do we remember the stories woven into its very fabric?

‘Middle-earth’ wasn’t just a dark age name for Europe and Britain. It was a time when our ancestors spun tales brimming with magic and mystery, a stark contrast to the label of “dark ages” imposed by scholars who valued written records. Animism is an oral tradition: Knowledge and practices were often passed down through stories, songs, and rituals, not written texts. These weren’t mere fantasies; they were stories steeped in a vibrant animistic spirituality. The elements, the creatures, the very land – all were seen as teachers. Kings, Queens, and legendary figures like Merlin and King Arthur and Guinevere (unfortunately most surviving records from the period focus on the actions and beliefs of men, making it harder to reconstruct women’s roles) walked alongside the fae folk and spirits, reflecting a deep connection to the unseen. These stories, passed down through generations, became a bridge to a world where magic and myth intertwined with everyday life.

The rolling hills of the Shire, where I spent my childhood in Worcestershire, mirrored the essence of ‘Middle Earth Medicine Ways.’ Born in the heart of the Midlands, I was surrounded by a landscape that whispered of forgotten lore. This connection to place ignited a deep question: what is the unique “medicine” of our land? Where are the echoes of our indigenous healers and their wisdom? “Middle Earth Medicine Ways” became a call to rediscover these lost practices, to reclaim the birthright of healing that lies dormant within us all.

We often turn to faraway lands searching for indigenous wisdom, forgetting the rich tapestry woven into our own soil. Centuries of neglect have silenced the stories whispered by our ancestors, buried beneath layers of history books. Even our language, once vibrant, bears the scars of this neglect. But the yearning for belonging remains. It’s within these very lands, where the “enchanted world” slumbered, that we can rediscover our birthright – the healing medicine desperately needed by both our cultures and landscapes. It’s time to reclaim the stories etched in our hearts, the whispers carried on the wind, and awaken the spirit that lies dormant within.

The third layer delves into the spirit. It’s no coincidence that “spirit” comes from the word “breath.” We yearn to reconnect with a soulful existence, one that transcends the ego and embraces both the material and the unseen. Centuries of religious dominance may have buried our ancestral ways, but the embers still glow. Here, we learn to embody our soul, breathe deeply to release past burdens, and rediscover the innate wisdom that lies dormant within. Prayer, dance, song – these are not mere rituals, but birthrights that allow us to express ourselves, create beauty, and recognise the gifts we bring to the world. As we shed the conditioning that holds us back, our unique “medicine” emerges, a path of healing for ourselves and the world.

‘Middle Earth Medicine Ways’ unfolds in three layers, a map to rediscover ourselves and the world around us. We delve inward, exploring the wellspring of our being. We connect outward, to our communities and the land we share. And we reach upward, reawakening the spirit that lies dormant within.

As more embrace this path, a powerful healing begins. We reclaim the fractured pieces of our past – the forgotten stories, the suppressed wisdom, the connection to the land itself. This isn’t about retreating to a bygone era, but about stitching together the broken threads, weaving a future where innocence and belonging are rediscovered. We can’t erase the past, but we can learn from it, forging a path of wholeness – for ourselves, for our cultures, for the very Earth that sustains us. This is the journey of ‘Middle Earth Medicine Ways,’ a call to remember, to reclaim, and to become.

At the heart of our process lies the Mandorla, or ‘Polarity of Purpose.’ Imagine yourself at the center of this oval, a space where opposing forces converge. It could be the tension between a deep wound and a soaring aspiration, the Eastern and Western aspects of your being, the masculine and feminine energies. Whatever the polarity, the Mandorla reminds us that we stand in the perfect balance point, not pulled to one extreme or the other.

“Middle Earth Medicine Ways” draws upon these ancient concepts, the “wyrd” (the unexplainable, sacred force that governs life), lore, storytelling, and traditional crafts. By reconnecting with these “old ways,” we restore balance not just within ourselves, but for our ancestors and future generations.

‘Middle Earth Medicine Ways’ isn’t just a concept, it’s a homecoming. It’s a journey that guides us back to ourselves, stripping away the layers of conditioning that obscure our true essence. It’s a return to our ancestral lands, a reconnection to the spirit that flows through all living things. It’s the realisation that we are part of something far grander than our individual egos.

This path ignites a profound sense of belonging, a knowing that we are held within the vast embrace of life itself. And the immense joy is that “Middle Earth Medicine Ways” didn’t choose me; it dreamt its way through me, a testament to the universal yearning for wholeness that resides within us all.

I hope you will join us on the path…
